This cassette with its pompous title, echoing the philosophy classes of the high school, is the first compilation of songs I made. At the time, I had to copy it for a few friends, but it was never distributed. The first of these tracks date back to when I was fifteen, I was in ninth grade at the time and had just left the village where I had grown up to move to the city. The little time I spent on my neighbor's Bontempi keyboard made me want to have a keyboard of my own: it was a Casio model (Casiotone 7000 I think) that had the possibility of recording four different tracks, and it was great! Soon after, I discovered the "real" four-tracks tape, which I borrowed with a microphone from the brand new local free radio station in my town, as soon as it was available. With this equipment, I experimented with the possibility of playing back the recordings, a fascinating process that allowed me to hear not only the sound of my keyboard, but also that of the voice in a different way. If I recognize here and there the influences of pieces I was listening to at the time, the whole escapes any particular genre. The darker moods of the Âme Triste recordings are still only a few mists. No song project here, just the musical chronicle of my adolescence, which finally contains in germs everything I was able to do afterwards.

Cette cassette au titre pompeux, écho des cours de philosophie du lycée, est la première compilation de morceaux que j’ai faite. J’ai dû à l’époque la copier pour quelques amis, mais elle ne fut jamais distribuée. Les premiers de ces morceaux datent de mes quinze ans, j’étais à l’époque en seconde et venais de quitter le village où j’avais grandi pour emménager en ville. Le peu de temps passé sur le clavier Bontempi de mes voisins m’avait donné l’envie d’avoir un clavier à moi : ce fut un modèle Casio (Casiotone 7000 je crois) qui comportait la possibilité d’enregistrer quatre pistes différentes, et c’était formidable ! Peu de temps après, je découvrais le"vrai" quatre pistes cassette, que j’empruntais avec un micro à la toute nouvelle radio libre locale de ma ville, dès que cela était possible. Grâce à ce matériel, j'expérimentais la possibilité de lire à l’envers les enregistrements, procédé fascinant permettant d’entendre autrement le son de mon clavier, mais également celui de la voix. Si je reconnais çà et là les influences de morceaux que j'écoutais à l’époque, l’ensemble échappe à tout genre particulier. Les ambiances plus sombres des enregistrements d’Âme Triste ne sont encore que quelques brumes. Aucun projet de chanson ici, juste la chronique musicale de mon adolescence, qui contient finalement en germes tout ce que j’ai pu faire par la suite.
