about

In 1989, I was living in Châlons-en-Champagne for studies. I lived in a boarding school, Sebastian Gandera lived in the room opposite mine. Some pieces (Rêve de danse; Joyeuse mécaniques; Soir bleu) were recorded on the spot in Châlons with Sebastian, who was not the kind of person to spend hours on the multitrack. When he recorded a song, it either already "existed" on the piano or he simply improvised at the time.
As far as I was concerned, the process was different, I needed more time. I recorded intensively during the summer holidays, with a mobile home studio and with little equipment.A Mirage, as well as a harmonium came to complete my keyboards. The songs took shape during long sessions where I experimented alone, without worrying about the musical rules, which I didn't know anyway. I recorded during the day and went out at night. I loved to sing, but I usually left room for Isabelle, always very inspired, who would record later.
Most of the lyrics are taken from poems by Paul Eluard, except for Soir Bleu which is by Georges Schehadé. For Fristaprouk, Isabelle invented the words.
The cover photo of the cassette - presented in a classic box (more modest than for Océan Velouté) - was taken in Saint-Pair sur Mer, Normandy, during the summer, where the highest tides in Europe occur. When I took this photo, Isabelle and I were returning from a walk at low tide.
The cassette, edited in small numbers, was distributed by FRONT de l'EST and AYAA Disque, who presented the tape in her catalogue as follows: "A young group in the making who refines their approach to each production; layers of synthesizer and vocals dominate, melancholy, mischievous, disarmingly naive, always beautiful because they are authentic".

about

A Gethsémani Paris, France

In 1986, I started to record alone, with a four-track cassette of melodic pieces with dark atmospheres.
The first thing I had to do was to choose a name, so my curiosity for religion and my aesthetic tastes led me to Gethsemane, a biblical name evoking both the threat and the appeasement that the night brings. ... more
