about

In 1988, I started to live in Reims for university studies. After my first cassette, Ame Triste (re-released on vinyl in 2019 by Tunnel Vision), which was practically a solo project, a real duo work was set up with Isabelle Morival, who was my girlfriend at that time, and who liked the idea of being a "singer". We really liked some mixed duos like Kas Product or Dead Can dance. Our love duet blossomed musically with a certain division of tasks: composition and instrumental playing for me; melody and singing for her. The process of elaboration of the pieces was the following: once the pieces were recorded, I brought propositions of text and Isabelle placed herself her singing on the pieces. She had a real musical sense and didn't need much time. Her voice was very beautiful, with sensual accents, sometimes childish or naive, always very expressive.
In order to broadcast this cassette, we had a nice booklet printed with the lyrics of the songs and photos (including one of my friend Sebastian Gandera). This booklet came out in a boxed set, with a beautiful photo of Claude Bertrand (the father of another friend, Stephane) on the cover. This photo taken at the North Cape in Norway, and Isabelle's suave voice, gave me the idea for the title: Velvet Ocean.
The original tapes, limited to 200 copies, was distributed by FRONT de l'EST and AYAA Disque, who presented the tape in his catalogue as follows: "First production of this duo adept of an electronic instrumentalization; apart from a container of a rare quality - to make jealous the Touch label which is a master in this domain -, the content is promising, sometimes evoking Holger Czukay and Tuxedomoon."

about

A Gethsémani Paris, France

In 1986, I started to record alone, with a four-track cassette of melodic pieces with dark atmospheres.
The first thing I had to do was to choose a name, so my curiosity for religion and my aesthetic tastes led me to Gethsemane, a biblical name evoking both the threat and the appeasement that the night brings. ... more
